The Sollei is a stunning preview of Cadillac’s future
Cadillac has unveiled the Sollei concept, an electric roadster drawing inspiration from the upcoming hand-built Celestiq, short of the roof and a pair of doors.

The Sollei, derived from "sol" for sun and "lei" for leisure, aims to offer a calm and relaxed driving experience in a world of relentless performance cars. Painted in a gorgeous Manila Cream yellow—a nod to Cadillacs from the late fifties—the Sollei stands out with its long, sleek body and 23-inch wheels with a gleaming silver finish. The brushed aluminum windshield surround with a rose gold "Aurora" tint and the absence of traditional door handles, replaced by subtly integrated buttons, serve to enhance the seamless design of the drop-top. The Sollei manages to capture the essence of the Cadillac brand more than any other introduced in recent years.

The enormous five-foot-long doors open to reveal a luxurious haven, an interior filled with rich leather and fine wood. The unstained wood, hand-cut, and hand-laid using the marquetry technique, showcases natural grain patterns and flows smoothly from the cabin sides to the rear of the seats, an Art Deco-inspired design. The Nappa leather, with an iridescent pink pigment, creates a subtle color-changing effect, complementing the yellow exterior and light-colored wood.

The Sollei concept is built on Cadillac's Ultium battery platform, sharing its wheelbase and overall length with the Celestiq. However, the focus is more on design and luxury than powertrain specifics. The dashboard features the same 55-inch pane of glass as the Celestiq, housing two separate screens. The interior includes a fully integrated chiller with a powered glass door and bespoke crystal drink set, alongside 126 color choices for ambient lighting.

The Sollei is Cadillac’s first concept to use bio-based materials developed with MycoWorks. Fine Mycelium, a renewable material grown from mushroom root structures, is used in the charging mats and door map pockets. Another particularly unique feature of the Sollei is its homage to bird-watching enthusiasts. A custom brushed metal and leather-wrapped case between the rear seats holds four 3D-printed acrylic bird calls, a leather-bound journal with hand-painted bird illustrations, and a leather tool roll for pens and pencils.

Cadillac's unveiling of the Sollei at Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, a bespoke design facility at GM’s Global Technical Center, highlights its dedication to offering unique, custom-tailored luxury vehicles. The Sollei not only reflects Cadillac's storied history of elegant convertibles but also previews a future of innovative design and sustainable materials. Along with the Celestiq, it is a testament to Cadillac's grand luxury ambitions and a testament to its ability to craft hand-built, bespoke vehicles that cater to the unique tastes and lifestyles of its clientele.
